Cheek augmentation is a procedure designed to add prominence to the cheeks in order to enhance the facial features or improve facial contour. During the surgery, implants are used to create the appearance of high cheekbones.

Cheek augmentation is commonly performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. Incisions made for the surgery are often located on the inside of the upper lip or in the lower eyelid. These incisions are well-concealed, resulting in no visible scarring after surgery. While the exact nature of the surgery may vary according to the particular patient, in general the tissues will be stretched, creating a pocket into which the implant is inserted. Patients can expect the surgery to last about thirty minutes to an hour.
After the cheek augmentation surgery, a dressing may be applied to the cheek area. Stitches will be removed or dissolve on their own after about ten days. Patients may find that moving their lips and mouth is difficult at first and this may require dietary restrictions. Medication can be prescribed to help control any discomfort that occurs. Most cheek augmentation patients find that they are well enough to return to work after about one to two weeks, though you will be advised to refrain from rigorous activities and sun exposure for several weeks or more.
