Injectables
Injectables are an appealing option for patients with early to moderate signs of aging, and others who are not quite ready for surgery. A local anesthetic is all that may be required and the in-office sessions usually take less than 45 minutes. Immediately afterwards the patient can continue on with his or her normal routine. Patients have their choice of injectables that produce results ranging from temporary, semi-permanent or permanent.
We use Botox®, a muscle relaxant, to treat crow's feet around the eyes, the forehead and frown lines, and the banding in the neck. Using a hair-strand thin needle to give a few tiny injections into the offending muscles, wrinkles or creases are smoothed out. Typically, results last about four (4) months. Some patients on a regular maintenance program report going as long as six (6) months before needing another treatment.
Injectable fillers, such as Restylane®, Botox, Juvaderm, Perlane, Radiesse and Sculptra work well in softening wrinkles and smiles lines, the nasiolabial folds, plumping or augmenting the lips, and filling in lip lines. We also use them to restore volume in the jaw line, and to fill the hollows under the eyes that create the impression of dark circles. Depending upon the injectable, a single session or a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart will accomplish optimum results. Injectables are also adjuvant procedures in some cosmetic surgeries, particularly facelift and eyelid surgeries.
With most injectables, patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine. Injectables which provide only temporary results will require repeat treatments in order to maintain the improvement. There are generally very few side effects associated with injectables.
