Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure which can improve a variety of flaws by resurfacing the skin with a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. The procedure can restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance by treating wrinkles, crow's feet, acne scarring and sun damage.

If you are seeking an improvement in age- or sun-damaged skin, then laser skin resurfacing may be a good option for you. Dr. Wise is happy to meet with you for a consultation to discuss the possibilities available to you through cosmetic surgery and whether or not laser skin resurfacing can best meet your needs.

The laser skin resurfacing procedure is often performed with local anesthesia and sedation. The exact nature of the procedure will vary for each patient. In general, however, a laser device will be passed over the skin which instantly vaporizes the skin's top layer. Patients can expect the surgery to last anywhere from several minutes to an hour depending on the size of the treatment area. In most cases, multiple sessions are required.

After the laser skin resurfacing treatment, some redness, swelling and crusting of the skin can occur. After one to two weeks, the new skin will emerge looking pink and free of many wrinkles. It can take three to four weeks for the redness to fully fade. Patients may need to follow a soft diet for a period of time. Most laser skin resurfacing patients find that they're well enough to return to work after about two weeks, though you will be advised to protect the treated skin from sun exposure and extremes in temperature for a period of time.
