Since the nose is the most prominent feature of a person's face, it is not surprising that rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures for people of all ages. Disproportion in the size and shape of the nose can do much to distract from an otherwise attractive face. Your desire and facial structure, as well as Dr. Wise's experience and aesthetic judgment, are all important criteria for deciding how your new nose will look.

Dr. Wise has extensive experience in both "closed" and "open" approaches.  He will recommend what technique is best for the patient, depending on his evaluation.

Dr. Wise has performed rhinoplasties on appropriate candidates ranging from teenagers to people in their 70's. Teenagers should be physically and emotionally mature before undergoing the procedure. One study, "The Psychological Effects of Rhinoplasty," has been quoted by the New York Times and People magazine. It confirms that teens receive significant benefits from rhinoplasty, psychologically and socially, by helping to create a positive self-image.

The office consultation gives us the opportunity to discuss your questions and concerns and review in detail the essential aspects of a rhinoplasty. In addition, at that time you will be introduced to computer imaging, an excellent visual tool for previewing possible results.

Surgically, our technique allows us to precisely craft the nasal structure by modifying its bone and cartilage. We are able to firmly secure the components, eliminating the need for uncomfortable nasal packing which reduces post-operative discomfort, bruising and swelling. The dressing comes off within one week after surgery, about the same time that most patients can return to work.

Additional Rhinoplasty Information

During the procedure, the skin is separated from the underlying bone and cartilage which is then sculpted to the desired shape and then the skin is redraped over the new framework.

A dressing is applied after surgery. Nasal packing is often not necessary, making the recovery a more comfortable one. Some temporary swelling and bruising around the eyes can occur. The dressing is removed within about a week, at which time most patients can also return to work and their normal activities. More strenuous activities will need to be avoided for two to three weeks.

Dr. Wise has been recognized internationally as a specialist in rhinoplasty.  He has been the author of numerous journal papers and chapters in medical literature. Frequent guest lecturers, we also teach our innovative techniques at national workshops and courses.

Patients are frequently referred to Dr. Wise because of prior disappointing outcomes. Revision rhinoplasty can be a more complicated procedure; previous surgery may have included excessive removal of supporting bone and cartilage, loss of tip support, and/or twisted nasal structure, along with scar tissue. Each of these issues presents a greater surgical challenge than a primary rhinoplasty.

Our technique involves precisely replacing missing structure and repositioning cartilage to produce a nose that is aesthetically pleasing in both size and shape. Surgical skill and extensive experience also allow Dr. Wise to reduce an overly long nose and/or correct an excessively drooping tip. Your new nose should appear natural, well shaped, and in proportion to your face.
