Altering the shape and/or internal structure of the nose can be a life changing experience and profoundly affect a person’s confidence and general well-being. Unfortunately, circumstances, such as developmental conditions, lack of experience by the surgeon, or the patient’s healing process, can leave the nose without any improvement. This often leaves the patient feeling frustrated and unsatisfied with the overall results of their rhinoplasty procedure.

Also known as “secondary rhinoplasty,” revision rhinoplasty can improve the aesthetic aspects, as well as correct functional problems of the nose that were not achieved with their primary rhinoplasty surgery. At our New Jersey practice, Dr. Jeffrey Wise frequently performs rhinoplasty for men and women of all age groups. In fact, a select number of his patients come to him for specifically for revision purposes after their goals were not met from their original rhinoplasty.

Good Candidates

Although anyone who is unhappy with the outcome of a prior rhinoplasty is a candidate for revision, most patients who desire a secondary procedure wish to improve one or more of the following:

  • Pinched tip

  • Turned up nostrils

  • Creases around the nose

  • Breathing difficulties

  • Scooped out profile

Revision rhinoplasty is typically more complex than the original procedure due to scarring and less cartilage in the nose. The surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. If possible, the same incision patterns will be used during surgery to lessen the chances of additional scarring occurring afterwards.
